You should seriously calm down: the fundamentals of how to do that

“Just chill”, “calm down” , “just relax already” is your blood pressure up yet? Mine often is after these type of comments. So, how do

we accomplish that? We are barraged by ideas and suggestions. You can meditate, use essential oils, counseling, yoga, etc. How do you know what to do? Ive tried a lot myself. What makes me happy and laugh seems to work best.

For me, that would be the granddaughters. I love them so much!!

If you are in the young child years, you can only imagine what I am saying. When my kids were young, it was all a rush trying to keep up. We worked opposite shifts to help cover the childcare. I was on call a lot, so my husband and I took turns. My mom was the main backup. It was work, kids, sleep, repeat.

So, what do you do for yourself? Me? That’s the last thing on the list! Is that true? It was for me. I had running. That was my escape. I could run and think. It did help a lot. Fast forward to today. I have a chronic disease that causes weakness, I can’t work regularly, what is my contribution??? I struggle with that every day. I have learned that I still need to pay attention to my relaxation. I guess I’m saying that you can’t be a true nurturer unless you take care of yourself first. Only you can decide what that is.

It’s so ironic. This piece has sat on my phone for a few days, not completed. I just didn’t even know how to answer my own question. What do I do to relax? I can talk about it, but I’ve been terrible at fulfilling the task. It just so happened that my phone sent a reminder to continue a devotion series that I had started awhile ago and then neglected. Guess what it was about?! It suggests taking time to just be still, and let God take care of things. I’m awful at letting someone else handle anything for me. It was a great reminder!

So, here’s the challenge: can you be still? Just sit quietly for 10 minutes. I know this seems almost impossible with a young family. Maybe it’s after they are in bed, or before they get up. Maybe it’s just waiting in the car to pick them up from school. Give it a try, and see if you don’t feel recharged. Don’t focus on what’s bothering you, focus on something in the present. It can be your breathing, the wind blowing, the rain, you get the picture. Let me know how it goes!!

Be still and know that I am God

As the title says, above all, I’m a mom. There are many roles that I fill, but mom describes me best. I’m a wife, mother, sister, daughter, nurse, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife, mother in law, dog lover, patient, friend, care giver, teacher, leader, crafter, consumer, writer. I could go on, but I’m sure you get the idea. We all have so many roles. I feel I have a lot to share, and decided a blog would be a great way to do it. I live in a rural area, so this is the best way to connect with others.

  1. I had a customer the other day and we were talking after her purchase. I said “I’m sorry, I hope I’m not keeping you!” She said “No! I am making an effort to be more PRESENT in my life. Enjoying what I’m doing right at this moment. Not worrying about what I need to do later. And THIS is what I want to doing.” I just loved that. And it’s something we can all do.
